Letters confirming external practice attendance are found in the hard-copy portfolio.
This was my second visit in the practice of this very experienced osteopath in Hamburg. The first time I've been there both to observe but also to interview this gentleman for my observation and, inspired by what I saw last time, I asked to be allowed to observe him again. In the way he practices I particularly like the way he integrates a wide range of techniques to form his own very particular way of practicing as an osteopath, thereby leaving space for both very structural and rather gentle or even energetic work, apparently influenced by Far Eastern medicine: The motto almost being 'Anything that works is valid, and I can only find out if things work by trying them out.' At the same time this practitioner cannot be accused of disregarding scientific evidence, being himself the author of numerous definitive osteopathic books in German.
After only having observed him the first time around, this time I got the opportunity to participate in the treatments myself. On one patient, I got to do a few techniques aimed to calm down the autonomic nervous system - after she had to go through a rather uncomfortable course of treatment for an acute SIJ dysfunction. And also I did a quite an extensive lymphatic treatment on an old lady with remarkable peripheral oedema. I appreciated the trust my supervising osteopath was apparently putting into me and highly valued the opportunity to work on patients outside the BSO clinic. 'Work experience' is so much more rewarding if it actually is what the name implies - as opposed to 'observation'.
The letter confirming the practice visit described above will be included in a separate folder, so as to protect the osteopaths' anonymity, this being a non-protected site in the www.
